This is a short explanation of the Club’s social programme, with guidelines for each event
| Working Party - not a party at
all but the chance for all members to get dirty making the Clubhouse and
grounds ready for the season or packing up for the winter. This is also
the time we launch or lay up the safety boats. Please bring brooms, spades,
cleaning implements - but chiefly bring YOURSELVES! Free drinks provided
for workers.
Work wear recommended. |
| Bonfire Party - |
| Toast the Season - is the first
supper event of the year and like all suppers and dinners all are welcome.
Smart casual. |
Quiz Evening - is an evening with a series of quizzes that are in some way relevant to the Sailing Club. A good opportunity to remind yourself of the way to the Club on a Wednesday evening in preparation for the Wednesday evening racing that starts the following week Smart casual |
| Rules Evening – After sailing and while munching on fish & chips, there will be the opportunity to discuss the finer pionts of rules of racing |
| Fun Sailing followed by Family Barbecues
– are held during the season and all members and their families
are welcome, the barbecue will be provided and the bar will be open, bring
your own food. This year OOD training will also be run on these Saturday
afternoons. Casual (/more) |
| Jubilee Bowl Barbecue - is held in September
at Fawley Meadows, Henley. Sunday will be spent sailing for the Regatta
Bowl and Junior Handicap Cup. The Club provides the barbecue on Saturday
evening; bring your own food, tables and chairs. Camping and limited bar
on site for the weekend. Children are welcome to bring bicycles, games
etc. No safety boat cover will be provided on the Saturday. Warm clothing for the evening |
| Cocktail party - this is usually held in June,
hopefully in dry sunny weather, so members and their guests can enjoy
cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before going out to eat. This event
finishes at approximately 20.15p.m. Gentlemen to wear a blazer or lounge suit please |
| Summer Ball on the MV Waterman – An opportunity to enjoy the delights of the Thames from the top of a pleasure steamer. An evening cruise from Wargrave to Henley timed to coincide with the Henley festival fireworks. The evening includes dinner and open air dancing to a jazz band. Gentlemen to wear a blazer or lounge suit please |
| Club Suppers – are events that
are traditionally run by each class for all members, not just sailors
within that class. Smart casual. |
| Laying up Supper - used to be the
last event of the year when boats were “laid up” for the Winter. As we
now sail a Winter series it marks the end of Sunday afternoon sailing.
The event is always a theme supper with the Clubhouse being decorated and
members encouraged to wear fancy dress.
Fancy dress optional or Smart casual. |
| Christmas Lunch - is the last event
of the year and marks the end of the seasons sailing. Traditional Christmas
lunch is served to a maximum of 70 members (tight squeeze, but great fun!).
Early booking is essential. Children are very welcome to this event and
each child receives a small present.
Christmas dinner clothes! |
| Annual General Meeting - is held in late
January or early February and is the meeting where Officers and Committee
are elected for the following year, cups for the previous season’s sailing
are distributed, and reports for the year are presented. The bar is open
from 18.00p.m. and the meeting starts at 18.30 and finishes at approximately
20.00p.m. There is a meal served after the meeting for those who would
like to stay, menus are sent out with the AGM invitation. Gentlemen to wear a jacket and tie please. |
